I know exactly how you feel - the frustration you have, the negativity surrounding the illness, the misunderstanding by physicians, people accusing you of things that are not true (that it's all in your head, that you're really suffering from mental illness), the lack of medical care for Lyme, denial of insurance, medication costs, and the fact that you just may be too sick to be your own advocate. Believe me when I say that I know how you feel. I was there, too.
What Canadian Lyme sufferers need most is a "straight path" to wellness - where doctors are trained and informed about this illness, where testing is accurate, and where there are treatment choices based on a patient's needs. This is not yet the reality in Canada.
I hope that my blog will help you to navigate through the maze and straighten your path a bit, if you happen to be afflicted with Lyme disease, or suspect that you may be.
When I was in the depths of despair at the beginning of my illness, my pastor suggested I read and meditate upon Psalm 27. Verse 11 says, “Teach me your way, O Lord; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors.” Lyme was my oppressor, though I didn’t know it by name yet. As I prayed through my illness, God guided me through that maze, and now I am here, able to share my story with you.
Peace, blessings, and prayers,
Paula
